Hi Everyone, Heading to Cahuita tomorrow and was wondering if anyone can reccommend a good, cheap place to stay ($8-$15USD per person for 2 people). We are two 24 year old girls wanting to stay near the beach. We don't mind dorm or double, there just seems to be an overwhelming amount of places to stay so wanted some recommendations. I would normally search but the search function isn't working at the moment. Thanks!
Yesterday, we spent our time getting ready to leave for Costa Rica. ... Tomorrow we are going to the Arenal Volcano, and we should be there a few days before heading to the Caribbean coast of Panama! I’ll update from Arenal next....
Finding a home is this country is on the list of top priorities for a lot of people, however, you must bear in mind certain important points so that you do not get duped in the deal. This article will throw light upon a few important points that will help you exert caution while finding your home on this soil....
The food here is so fresh and flavorful...I haven't had a meal, smoothie or other drink that I haven't liked! The breakfasts here are very good - nothing like fresh eggs and fruit from this verdant place. Gallo Pinto is what they call a typical Costa Rican breakfast - eggs, rice and beans, fresh fruit. There are variations at different restaurants and "Soda's" - a Soda is a small outdoor local eating place with a simple menu.

And the coffee.....they say here that Juan Valdez of Columbia drinks Costa Rican coffee! I have had a Mojito - the best ever, and a Pina Colada that was superb. Okay well maybe two. Most of the time, I receive the plate of food and forget to photograph the delectable delights. But fortunately, I remembered to get the camera out a few times. (photos)
Well, I survived the night! I barely moved all night because I was scared out of my wits! The morning started with a cold shower. The owner seemed to pride himself on the fact that his houses had hot showers but there must have been a trick to it as there often is here in Costa Rica. Nicole and I quickly agreed that we are not nature people and decided to find a different hotel.

After 45 minutes of walking in the hot, humid weather with nothing to drink, we arrived at Suerre Caribe. .. and immediately booked it. Suerre Caribe is the only hotel in the Puerto Viejo area that has air conditioning! Bonus! Getting served in Costa Rica is a long process as the Ticos are in no hurry... Lunch can be a 90 minute ordeal....Since then, I have learned that there were 5 or 6 muggings there in the last 2 weeks and some locals told the teen group that they should not walk there in
Few places in the world can offer travelers volcanoes towering up to 12,530 feet and a seemingly endless 700 miles of coastline on the Pacific and Caribbean like Costa Rica can. Though Costa Rica is known for many of its great tourism specialties there is one that should never be overlooked: surfing.

There are also cool surf towns popping up in Jaco, Tamarindo and Puerto Viejo. The best waves occur in the rainy season (Northern Hemisphere 'summer') on the pacific side, and in the hot dry season ('winter') on the Caribbean – so you’ll always be able to find a good break.

Why is Costa Rica called 'The Hawaii of the Central America"? Costa Rica's appeal is easy to understand: Consistent surf year-round, Warm water, Easy access to thousands of breaks, Surf conditions from mild to mind-blowing, Surf camps and international tournaments, Affordable prices...
It was wonderful to sleep in a clean, air conditioned room last night. And it was even better to have a nice, hot shower this morning! After a quick breakfast at the hotel, I headed to the beach. I walked along the beach and had fun taking pictures. I also sat on the beach and read on my Kindle. It was so nice and relaxing! The weather was a little cloudy but, later in the morning, the sun was shining enough to give me a bit of ...

We are up early for breakfast and with our slimmed down baggage back on the bus toManzanillo. We go by several banana plantations and Zack tells us about workers who have gotten ill/died from the pesticides. There are many for sale signs for houses all around Costa Rica. I wonder about retiring to a tiny shack. Lunch at Manzillo is at "Soda Lidia". Soda is a small restaurant or cafe` where locals might eat, see more here. I have a fish fillet, the usual and desirable rice and beans cooked with coconut milk, and a little cabbage salad. For dessert we have a very dense and chocolaty chocolate cake, not very sweet, but very, very real. We drive to the beach and our packs are loaded onto a fishing boat, we won't have to carry them on our hike. We set off into the jungle with our respective machete bearing guides. Ricco is a paunchy lively older black man with dreads. He shows us the Noni f
Last month my family and I traveled to Costa Rica for spring break. Because we were there for just a week, we were on a pretty tight itinerary. We were just stretching out in our hotel room in Punta Uva after a long day in the car, when there was a knock at our door.
"Come quickly," whispered our guide, Alex Martinez. "Bring your camera." He spoke softly so as not to startle the three-toed sloth that was making its way across the ground twenty feet from our room.
The right private guide can often make a good family vacation even better. If you're traveling with your family to a foreign country, a big city, or an untamed wilderness, here are some reasons to consider hiring someone to show you around.

You'll see more wildlife
You won't have to drive
You'll avoid unnecessary stress
You'll be entertained
Puerto Viejo is actually the home of the an awesome surf break called Salsa Bravo (Wild Sause). We went to the internet café in town after lunch to finish up illstreet stuff and the internet was AWFUL. I spent about 3 hours there!
For the rest of the day we just walked around hiking in the jungle and on the beach. Puerto Viejo is actually the home of the an awesome surf break called Salsa Bravo (Wild Sause). We went for a sunset swim in playa cochles, a few km hike away to get all the jungle dirt off of us and then stayed damp the rest of the night because the humidity is so high.

Want to be surrounded by wildlife on your Costa Rican vacation? Then we recommend the Hotel Punta Cocles. Located on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica in the town of Puerto Viejo, the Hotel Punta Cocles is juxtaposed between a gorgeous beach and the rainforests of the Talamanca Mountain range.

It is surprising to see a hotel that is just teeming with wildlife! Visitors can expect to see howler monkeys and sloths every day as they walk across the street to the beach. You are really near the heart of the rainforest! The Puerto Viejo area is well known as a popular place for bird watching in all of Costa Rica. The Hotel Punta Cocles has a great location, and as well as
May I suggest 2 other places, La Costa de Papito in Cocles area and Korrigan Lodge, a beautiful gem of a hotel in the Punta Uva area. Both places are great to their guest and you won't go wrong with either one.
We started construction only two weeks ago on the kitchen and office - which are being topped off this week- an incredible speed for a caribbean beach town. We drove to the port city of Puerto Limon friday to get some tiles at El Mundo de la Ceramica (world of tiles) and found the tile for the kitchen and bathrooms. They had every tacky tile you have ever seen in the world and of course with the perfect boarder to boot! Yes, here is where you find what will not sell anywhere else. Well after the salesman showed us the "BEST" we wondered through every stack and pile and found some pretty interesting stuff, for the floors some large tiles that look like concrete and the kitchen walls a off white with satin finish and for the bathroom walls a tile that kinda looks like bamboo streaks in a very light off green tint, it all came together pretty nice and we all felt the satisfying feeling of
Hotel Kasha is also within walking distance from Punta Uva, one of the ten best beaches in all of the Caribbean! Want to wake up to the sounds of howler monkeys right outside your room? Then check out Hotel Kasha, Costa Rica! Hotel Kasha is located just a few kilometers down the road from Puerto Viejo. Puerto Viejo actually has eleven different habitats within the city, making this part of Costa Rica particularly dense with a wide variety of animals. Puerto Viejo is known all over Costa Rica as the best place to birdwatch, with over three hundred species of birds in the area!
And many of the these animals have seemed to make Hotel Kasha their home! Sloths, lizards, hummingbirds, other tropical birds, and tiny blue crabs are all common sights at the hotel. You really are staying in
