Try to fit in Arenal-so much to see and do there. We drove from Playa Cocles area-little south of PV-so can do the drive. Drive took around 5-6 hrs. but stopped for gas in Limon and picture taking. Roads not bad so if no construction delays and not a lot of stopping along the way, it's perfectly doable and you will see beautiful scenery and nice, little towns and can do in less time than we took.
