#2) Playa Cocles: If you are looking for a beautiful yet nearly deserted beach, Playa Cocles is where you want to be.
The Cameleon would be an excellent choice for your honeymoon and addresses all the points you just outlined.

I think I would find it hard to compare Puerto Viejo to any state that you might be used to. It is really apples to oranges. Having not been to Vieques, it would be hard to say. But having been to Puerto Rico, I lean to thinking that Vieques would be somewhat comparable.

The Cameleon property is very secure without feeling like a prison. The beach is a short walk across the street and apart from the usual stuff of not leaving your valuables unattended, you should be fine.
Try to fit in Arenal-so much to see and do there. We drove from Playa Cocles area-little south of PV-so can do the drive. Drive took around 5-6 hrs. but stopped for gas in Limon and picture taking. Roads not bad so if no construction delays and not a lot of stopping along the way, it's perfectly doable and you will see beautiful scenery and nice, little towns and can do in less time than we took.
Two surfers cycle past me clutching their boards as a local Rastafarian waves them a salute from his spot under a beach palm tree. Waves break on golden sand, backed by a snaking ribbon of slender palms and tropical green foliage - it's a scene you could market as visual Prozac.

It's not hard to see why Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is one of the most popular destinations on Costa Rica's Caribbean coast. The world-class breaks, miles of unmanicured beaches, natural parks and laid-back welcome lure backpackers and surfers alike.
We were planning a trip to the Pacific side of Costa Rica in September or October however, I have noticed some resorts are closed during these months. I assume do to rain. Is this a bad time to visit? Should I stick with the Guanacaste area or Carribean side?

September and October are absolutely great on the Caribbean side, the ocean is calm and clear and generally no rain. There are however no big resorts on this side of the country, no high rise or golf courts either. But we do have beautiful beaches, rainforest, nice places to stay and good restaurants...
May I suggest 2 other places, La Costa de Papito in Cocles area and Korrigan Lodge, a beautiful gem of a hotel in the Punta Uva area. Both places are great to their guest and you won't go wrong with either one.
Want to be surrounded by wildlife on your Costa Rican vacation? Then we recommend the Hotel Punta Cocles. Located on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica in the town of Puerto Viejo, the Hotel Punta Cocles is juxtaposed between a gorgeous beach and the rainforests of the Talamanca Mountain range.

It is surprising to see a hotel that is just teeming with wildlife! Visitors can expect to see howler monkeys and sloths every day as they walk across the street to the beach. You are really near the heart of the rainforest! The Puerto Viejo area is well known as a popular place for bird watching in all of Costa Rica. The Hotel Punta Cocles has a great location, and as well as
And Playa Cocles, the beach where Beach Break is located, is a really pretty white sand beach that is perfect to relax on as well. Planning your next Costa Rica surf vacation? Well then head to Totem Hotel Resort on the Carribbean side of Costa Rica! The Totem Hotel Resort is literally located on right at Beach Break, one of the best surfing sports in this part of Costa Rica! And Playa Cocles, the beach where Beach Break is located, is a really pretty white sand beach that is perfect to relax on as well.
The Totem Hotel Resort has everything to make your vacation perfect! Their hotel has a delicious Italian restaurant, a great bar, and even...
This morning we will visit the Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge just down the coast. Here anyone can rent a mask and snorkel and bring it along our hike along the coast to beautiful hidden coves and tidal pools filled with tropical fish. In the afternoon we can play a soccer match with the local kids at the nearby soccer field, and then soak in the refreshing waters and surf at Playa Cocles. Tonight we will have dinner in the town of Puerto Viejo.
Mandala Apart'hotel? My wife and I will be in PV for a week early July. We are budget travelers and Mandala is right in our price range. Also, we are adventurous types and are planning on riding bikes most everywhere, suggestions for places to bike to will be appreciated! Thanks! I don't know the place personally but have a look at the reviews, which are excellent!

You can cover Cahuita to Manzanillo on your bikes and I am sure you will love the area.Places to bike...Playa Negra...Cocles...Punta Uva...Manzanillo...if you are really good... bike all the way to Cahuita National Park and town of Cahuita!
Getting from La Fortuna to Puerto Viejo was a rather painless endeavour. The Dutch couple decided to head to Monteverde so we parted company and I headed out on my own, but we are facebook buddies for life LOL. I found a great site for bus schedules for Costa Rica all the info you will need to find your way around.

I stayed in Puerto Viejo for 5 days, there were a few nice days weather wise but as previously mentioned the rainy season started early. So with 7 days left and a now seriously damaged liver and a few less brain cells, what to do what to do... Panama was not part of my original plan as I didn't think I would have time but now I do so we all decided to pick up and head down to Bocas Del Toro. One of my friends is flying back to Switzerland out of Panama so it seemed like a good idea as I had not been to Panama before, ah the ...
